He takes time to assess a learner\u2019s knowledge and challenges you to think deeply about the pathophysiology affecting your patient. He takes additional time out of his day, night or weekend to teach residents and recognizes that the best learning occurs when it is applied directly to the care of a patient in front of you. He challenges you to be your best and has high expectations but does this while creating a positive environment where learners thrive. He also takes time to meet with residents for mentorship, recognizing them as a whole person and providing thoughtful encouragement and guidance. He notices when a learner is struggling and provides the resources for them to succeed.
