A Message from the Chief Residents<\/h2>\n

On behalf of the entire chief resident team, welcome to the Anesthesiology Residency Program at UT Health San Antonio. Thank you for considering our program as you navigate the 2026\u20132027 Match. We know how much thought goes into choosing where to train, and we’d be glad to share what makes this program feel like home to us\u2014and why it can for you too.<\/p>\n

Clinically, you will train across our three primary sites – University Hospital, the South Texas Veterans Health Care System (Audie L. Murphy VA), and the UT Health Multispecialty and Research Hospital (MSRH.) While all conveniently located within a very short drive (or in some cases, a short walk) these sites together give you an exceptionally broad case mix. Here in San Antonio, you’ll manage complex, high-acuity anesthetics at a Level I trauma center, take part in one of the highest-volume liver transplant services in the country, and provide care for America\u2019s veterans. When you graduate from this program, you will be among the most capable perioperative consultants, well prepared for whatever path you choose – whether that’s a competitive fellowship in cardiothoracic, pediatrics, critical care, chronic pain, acute pain and regional anesthesia, or a direct step into academic or private practice.<\/p>\n

Residency is more than clinical training, and this is the part we’re most proud of. We’ve built a culture of genuine camaraderie, mentorship, and well-being. Our faculty aren’t just strong educators; they’re invested in you. If you let them, they will take the time to guide you personally. Your co-residents won’t just be classmates; they’ll be the people who celebrate your wins and pull you through the\u00a0hard weeks. It’s a collaborative environment where you’re valued and supported while reaching your full potential.<\/p>\n

If a great working environment and great co-residents weren\u2019t enough, how about a great location? San Antonio is a genuinely great place to spend these years. It’s a charming, relaxed, and refreshingly affordable city\u2014home to attractions like the River Walk, the Alamo, SeaWorld, Six Flags, and more golf than you’ll have time for. Right in the center of South Texas, it\u2019s a short drive to Austin, to floating the river in New Braunfels and San Marcos, to the vineyards and resorts of the Hill Country and Fredericksburg. While your training will be demanding, your time away from the hospital can be filled with incredible experiences where life outside of work is easy to love.<\/p>\n

Support & Resident Wellness<\/h2>\n

We recognize the importance and need for a strong Wellness Program for our residents. Our Wellness Committee is committed to developing curriculum that addresses health and wellness topics our residents may face that focuses on a healthy work-life balance. Each resident has a faculty advisor with the expectation to meet a minimum of two times a year.<\/p>\n

In addition, institutional support from our House Staff Council and Graduate Medical Education Wellness Program to provide counseling and support services to our residents.<\/p>\n
