This institute focuses on health disparities, researching the causes and solutions to the unequal impact of cancer and chronic ease on disadvantaged people in South Texas.

The Center for Medical Humanities and Ethics
This center emphasizes ethics and professionalism. It encourages community service learning in clinics around San Antonio, in the colonias of Laredo and Corpus Christi and in missions abroad, where medical students experience medicine as it is practiced in resource-poor environments.

Student-run Free Clinics
Student-run Free Clinics are faculty-supervised clinics in San Antonio’s Alpha Home, San Antonio Metropolitan Ministries, Seton Home and Travis Park United Methodist Church. These clinics provide basic but much-needed healthcare services to people who struggle simply to survive. Volunteering at the student clinic provides an opportunity for all four classes of medical students to interact and learn from each other.
Frontera de Salud
This is a volunteer organization run by medical students at UT Health San Antonio that are committed to bringing healthcare to the underserved. Students and mentors in this program provide healthcare to people of the colonias of Corpus Christi and Laredo – two of the most impoverished regions in the nation. The Office of Recruitment and Science Outreach
This office offer students from grade schools through undergraduate programs and opportunities to gain experiences and insight into medical/health careers, in preparation for pursuing these professions in the future.
