Research in the labs of our faculty spans many disciplines, including:[\/vc_column_text][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Cancer Biochemistry\/genomic integrity<\/li>\n<li>Neurobiological Mechanisms<\/li>\n<li>Parasite\/Viral Mechanisms<\/li>\n<li>Computational Biology, Bioinformatics<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Enzymology\/Metabolic Regulation<\/li>\n<li>Proteomics and Metabolomics<\/li>\n<li>Structural Biology<\/li>\n<li>Intercellular Signaling pathways<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][vc_column_text]One hallmark of our program is a focus on developing the next generation of therapeutics targeting cancer, infectious diseases and neuronal regeneration. Our faculty have made seminal contributions to many of these areas, and include Fellows of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, past-presidents of three national societies and 5 Presidential Distinguished Research and Teaching Faculty. Our graduate students are also a diverse group representing 4 disciplines within the IBMS (The department is the primary host for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uthscsa.edu\/academics\/biomedical-sciences\/programs\/integrated\/biochemicalmechanismsofmedicine\">Biochemical Mechanisms in Disease <\/a>, MD\/PhD and Biomedical engineering students and visiting foreign students from several programs.<\/p>\n<p>The technically complex nature of the molecular and biophysical studies conducted within the Department demands sophisticated instrumentation which is housed in several\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/lsom.uthscsa.edu\/biochemistry\/core-facilities\/\">core facilities<\/a>, each of which operates under the guidance of an internationally recognized expert:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"\">Macromolecular Interactions \u2013\u00a0Calorimetry (ITC, DSC), Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR), Light Scattering (DLS, SLS), AUC , and PEPcore<span class=\"\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Mass Spectrometry \u2013 Proteomics\/Metabolomics<\/li>\n<li>High Throughput Screening for Drug Discovery<\/li>\n<li>NMR Spectroscopy\/Fragment-based Screening<\/li>\n<li>X-ray Crystallography<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>On behalf of the faculty, students, researchers and staff in the Department, I invite you to get in touch with us \u2014 we will be happy to visit with you.
