Maureen has been practicing as an Interventional Cardiology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP) since 2013. A nursing professional with over thirty years of patient care and management experience in critical care. She cares for patients with a broad spectrum of cardiac and vascular problems that necessitate coronary and peripheral revascularization. She cares for patients that develop the structural challenges associated with severe aortic stenosis, atrial septal defects (ASD) and mitral regurgitation (MR) who are candidates for minimally invasive procedures such as ASD closure, trans aortic valve replacement (TAVR) and mitral clip repair. Over time her role has evolved to include patients with general cardiology and electrophysiology (EP) problems such as acute decompensated heart failure, arrhythmias requiring ablation and pacemaker placement or patients with systolic dysfunction requiring intracoronary defibrillator implantation procedures.
Prior to her career a Nurse Practitioner Maureen worked for 15 years at University Health System in the Transplant ICU as a patient care coordinator (PCC). In her role as PCC she was responsible for mentoring staff while caring for patients with complex cardiac and multisystem organ failure requiring transplantation and coronary revascularization. Maureen also worked for 3 years as a House Supervisor within University Health System, coordinating patient care, facilitating transfers from outside facilities while resolving issues collaboratively with hospital administration.
Her experience as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Honduras provided an opportunity to gain fluency in Spanish and develop a deeper understanding of the cultural barriers that immigrants from Central and South America face here in the United States.
She enjoys traveling, being physically active and spending time with her five children and more recently a grandmother. She is a longtime runner and devoted to fitness.
