Assistant Professor of Medicine, Chief of Cardiology at South Texas Veterans Health Care System

Personal Statement:

Dr. Son Pham is an interventional cardiologist and Chief of Cardiology at Audie L. Murphy Veterans Memorial Hospital.

He obtained his B.A. with distinction in biochemistry from the University of Colorado at Boulder, and M.D. from the University of Colorado School of Medicine.  He completed his internship, residency, and cardiology fellowship at Olive View-UCLA Medical Center and interventional cardiology fellowship at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center.

Dr. Pham served as Assistant Chief of Cardiology at UCSF-Fresno Medical Education Program from 1995 to 1998, Associate Chief of Cardiology and Director of Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory at Sacramento VA Medical Center from 2003 to 2008, Director of Cardiovascular Research at Bay Pines VA Medical Center in Bay Pines, Florida from 2010 to 2011, and Interim Chief of Cardiology at the University of Texas Health Science Center, San Antonio (UTHSCSA) from 2017 to 2019.

Dr. Pham is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and board certified in both cardiovascular disease and interventional cardiology.  He is currently Assistant Professor of Medicine at UTHSCSA.  He enjoys teaching medical students, residents, and fellows and conducting clinical research on many interventional cardiology related topics.

Dr. Pham has received teaching awards at all the institutions where he has worked including UCSF-Fresno, Kaiser Permanente, Sacramento VA Medical Center and UTHSCSA.  He has also published over 30 peer-reviewed articles/book chapter and served as a reviewer of the Catheterization & Cardiovascular Interventions.
