Dr. Carolina Solis-Herrera serves as the founding director of the Center for Excellence in Diabetes. She is an associate professor of medicine, chief of the Division of Endocrinology, and medical director of diabetes and endocrinology programs at UT Health San Antonio. Dedicated to advancing therapies, mentoring future leaders, and expanding access to care, Dr. Solis-Herrera has published more than 70 peer-reviewed articles and is nationally recognized for her contributions to diabetes research and community health.
Dr. Solis-Herrera’s impact has been celebrated across San Antonio and beyond. She received the UT Health San Antonio Presidential Clinical Excellence Award in 2024 and was named one of “America’s Top Doctors” in 2023. That same year, the Bexar County Medical Society honored her among its Extraordinary Women in Medicine. In 2022, the City of San Antonio presented her with the Hispanic Heritage Month Proclamation Award. Previously, she was recognized as San Antonio’s Best Female Doctor in 2021 and also received both the UT System Rising Star Award in Clinical Research and the UT Health San Antonio Women in Medicine honor that year. She is a Voelcker Scholar and also a recipient of the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation Clinical Scientist Development Award.
