Annette Guajardo, RN
Annette Guajardo has 7 years of nursing experience. She graduated with her Associate in Applied Science in Nursing in December 2013 from Baptist Health System School of Health Professions in San Antonio, TX. Her nursing experience includes direct bedside patient care on a medical surgical unit and a progressive care unit. On these units, she provided direct patient care for post-operative heart and lung surgery patients, ortho patients, stroke, and medical patients. She transitioned to discharge nurse case manager with University Hospital for the Transplant Department. In this position, she specialized in obtaining the right discharge resources to ensure a smooth, safe and successful discharge home or to a rehabilitation unit. Some of the discharge needs for these complex transplant patients included help with obtaining high cost medications, home health, home IV therapy, rehabilitation, and setting up durable medical equipment.
Annette joined the UT Health Cardiothoracic Surgery Department in December 2018 as one of the cardiac surgical nurse coordinators. She collaborates with the team to prepare patients for surgery. She prepares clinics by researching individual patient’s needs and coordinates diagnostic testing. She provides patient education for cardiothoracic patients through the perioperative and postoperative period. She is the primary nurse for Dr. Dawn Hui, Associate Professor of Cardiothoracic Surgery, and Dr. Otto Miller, Associate Professor of Cardiothoracic Surgery.
Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends. Her husband, 3-year-old son, and two dogs keep her life full of fun! They love to spend time outdoors at local parks.
