Medical Staff Coordinator
Veronica Leal is the Medical Staff Coordinator for the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery. She has been a member of UT Health San Antonio since 2010, when she began her career as a Administrative Assistant in the Department of Pathology. In 2013, she transferred to the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery as an Administrative Assistant and eventually promoted to her current position as Medical Staff Coordinator. In this role she is responsible for credentialing all department faculty, advance practice providers, and perfusionists, ensuring each one has the appropriate hospital and clinic privileges for patient care. Additionally, she provides administrative support for the Adult Cardiac and Lung Transplant Faculty, which include Drs. Daniel T. DeArmond, Dawn Hui, Duy C. Nguyen, Stephen Weatherford and J. Marvin Smith.
She earned certifications in Medical Front Office and Medical Coding from San Antonio College, San Antonio, Texas in 2012 and is currently working towards a certification in Credentialing.
Veronica is a very active member of the UT Health San Antonio Special Events Council and State Employee Charitable Campaign (SECC); Ambassador for the Texas Beef Council Team; and an American Heart Association Heart Walk Champion. Part of living healthy, she was honored with the “Healthy for Good Lifestyle Change” Award from the American Heart Association in March 2018.
In her off time, she enjoys spending time with family and rooting for her beloved SPURS! She especially enjoys time with her husband participating in numerous 5Ks, 10Ks, half-marathons and cycling tours.
