This can make it difficult for the heart to pump normally since the thickened muscle does not relax properly and may block the blood flow exiting the heart.<\/p>\n<p>Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy is usually an inherited condition. Some people with HCM will not have any symptoms while others may have chest pain, fatigue, or be short of breath. People with HCM are also predisposed to abnormal heart rhythms. Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy is a common cause of sudden death, especially in young people.<\/p>\n<p>Once a diagnosis of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy is made, a number of medical and surgical treatment options exist.
