{"id":3816,"date":"2022-10-07T13:26:06","date_gmt":"2022-10-07T18:26:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lsom.uthscsa.edu\/dcsa\/?page_id=3816"},"modified":"2022-10-10T08:03:44","modified_gmt":"2022-10-10T13:03:44","slug":"resources","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/lsom.uthscsa.edu\/dcsa\/education\/nci-t32\/resources\/","title":{"rendered":"Resources &#8211; NCI\/T32: Cancer Research Training Program"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wpb-content-wrapper\"><p>[vc_row][vc_column width=&#8221;2\/3&#8243;][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Resources for Trainees<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>T32 Resources<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>This is a training program in Cancer Biology supported by funds from the National Cancer Institute and the Mays Cancer Center of the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio.<\/p>\n<p>Both pre- and post-doctoral trainees will participate in the following Training Program-Specific Activities.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Course work in Computational Biology and Cancer Biology<\/li>\n<li>Trainees\u2019 bimonthly luncheon and Annual Program Retreat<\/li>\n<li>Weekly Cancer Biology Journal Club<\/li>\n<li>Seminars and workshops related to drug development, ASCO highlights, use of shared scientific resources, grant-writing, research integrity, and mentoring.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3><strong>CSBL 6068: Cancer Biology Core 1<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>This is the first part of the Cancer Biology Discipline core course. This course will provide an overview of current areas of research in the molecular biology of tumor formation. Areas that will be covered include oncogenes tumor &amp; suppressor genes, telomere biology, DNA repair pathways and maintenance of genomic stability. The alteration of normal cellular pathways in the multi-step process of tumorigenesis will be discussed, as well as stem cells in cancer. (2.0 Semester Credit Hours)<\/p>\n<h3><strong>CSBL 6069: Cancer Biology Core 2<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>This is the second part of the Cancer Biology Track core courses. This course provides an overview of the different cancers including lung, breast, prostate, colorectal, pancreatic, and hematological and tumors of the nervous system. It also covers this pathology of the cancers as well as chemoprevention. Current experimental approaches that will be presented include animal models, molecular diagnostics and tumor profiling.
