HEAL

Housestaff Emerging Academy of Leaders (HEAL) + Plus for Underrepresented in Medicine (URMs) Program Directors are invited to nominate outstanding housestaff (residents, fellows, or interns) to participate in a newly developed partnership between UT Southwestern Medical Center and UT Health Long School of Medicine, to enhance and prepare future leaders in academic medicine.

The Housestaff Emerging Academy of Leaders (HEAL) + Plus is a networking and professional development program designed for individuals underrepresented in medicine (URMs) — Black/African Americans, Native Americans/Alaska Natives, Native Hawaiian/Other Pacific Islanders, and Hispanics/Latinos. Participants are also strongly encouraged to engage in mentorship meetings with at least one faculty member from his or her clinical/research specialty. Mentorship meetings with a chosen faculty member can focus on individual clinical development, interactions with patients/colleagues, and skills. One-on-one mentoring/coaching, CV writing sessions, and other professional development workshops will be offered.

To complete the program, participants must accomplish several requirements needed to develop their leadership abilities and establish a connection with their Program Director, Department Chair or Division Chief.
