Dr. Jessica Solis-McCarthy’s passion to work with underserved populations led her to complete her Emergency Medicine residency and Emergency Ultrasound fellowship with UT Health San Antonio’s Department of Emergency Medicine, where she remained on as faculty in the Ultrasound division.

In the years since Dr. Solis-McCarthy’s training, she developed a passion for teaching and mentoring medical students, residents, and fellows. Her teaching style grew from utilizing a variety of medical education platforms including live didactics, live hands-on ultrasound teaching, video pre-recordings, and remote online teaching in the Longitudinal Medical Student Ultrasound (LMSU) curriculum.

Currently Dr. Solis-McCarthy serves as the Discipline Coordinator for ultrasound education for all medical students in the Long School of Medicine where she continues to develop curriculum based on student feedback. She also mentors the officers of the LSOM Ultrasound Interest Group where they have represented LSOM in a national sonolympics competition.

As part of a grant, Dr. Solis-McCarthy performs a needs-based assessment, creates teaching curriculum, and travels to the medically underserved regions of South Texas to teach point-of-care ultrasound for seasoned physicians staffing emergency departments.
