Women in Medicine: Yajaira Johnson-Esparza

Yajaira Johnson-Esparza, PhD, Assistant Professor

Department of Family and Community Medicine
Long School of Medicine

Dr. Johnson-Esparza joined faculty at the Long School of Medicine at UT Health San Antonio in 2019 and has impressed leadership with her dedication in advancing the field of psychology services and clinical training within primary care. Dr. Johnson-Esparza is keen on providing the most up to date empirically supported behavioral interventions in the primary care setting and she is committed to providing an exceptional standard of care for the patients she serves.

Clinically, she has had experience working with historically excluded groups and medically complex patient populations within a team-based, primary care behavioral health setting. In order to succeed at team-based care, an individual must be a team player, which Dr. Johnson-Esparza demonstrates continually. She has a passion for working with marginalized populations and projects a warm, cheerful attitude not only with patients, but also with her colleagues.
