Physicians with training and education in disaster medicine are uniquely positioned to play a key role in leadership\/disaster response in pre-hospital, hospital, and community settings.<\/p>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h2>Our Program:<\/h2>\n<p>The Disaster Medicine Fellowship offered by the Department of Emergency Medicine at UT Health San Antonio will provide program participants with a well-rounded training program that covers the key competencies of Disaster Medicine, as outlined by SAEM. The program will provide its fellows with training to treat patients in dire circumstances in limited-resource environments under austere conditions.[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text el_class=&#8221;no-indent&#8221;]<\/p>\n<h2>Highlights<br \/>\n<em>SAEM Accredited Fellowship<\/em><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"bold\">Participation in EMTF 8<\/li>\n<li class=\"bold\">Faculty status<\/li>\n<li class=\"bold\">Program length: 12-24 months (based on education and career goals; Master\u2019s degree with 24-month program)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text el_class=&#8221;no-indent&#8221;]<\/p>\n<h2>Goals<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Developing fellow skills as academic physicians<\/li>\n<li>Enhancing fellow\u2019s abilities to serve as providers and leaders who are operationally minded specifically for disaster response.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text el_class=&#8221;no-indent&#8221;]<\/p>\n<h2>Curriculum<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Real-world field training, exercises, and disaster response<\/li>\n<li>Didactics<\/li>\n<li>Education: both in-person and asynchronous<\/li>\n<li>Opportunities to obtain disaster leadership certifications and credentials<\/li>\n<li>Teaching opportunities: to the medical, academic, and general communities<\/li>\n<li>Research<\/li>\n<li>Academic involvement<\/li>\n<li>Program administration<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221;]<\/p>\n<h2>Program Format:<\/h2>\n<p>The Disaster Medicine Fellowship curriculum will expose participants to numerous other specialty areas in pre-hospital medicine. Program faculty include physicians from the department\u2019s EMS, tactical medicine, global health, wilderness medicine, and operational medicine sections. The Disaster Medicine Fellowship is led by Dr. Hunter Lau. This program is a non-ACGME accredited fellowship.<\/p>\n<p>The Disaster Medicine Fellowship is based at UT Health San Antonio, but program participants will have opportunities that extend to urban, rural, regional, national, and international disaster response efforts.
