Students and faculty participate in the latest research in cutting-edge emergency medicine with our military collaborators as well as veterans.<\/p>\n<p>Military City USA is home to the <a href=\"https:\/\/bexar.tx.networkofcare.org\/aging\/services\/agency.aspx?pid=SanAntonioMilitaryMedicalCenterSAMMCCenterfortheIntrepidCFI_687_1_0\">San Antonio Military Medical Center (SAMMC)<\/a>, a centralized location that includes 3 medical facilities:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/health.mil\/Military-Health-Topics\/Access-Cost-Quality-and-Safety\/Patient-Portal-for-MHS-Quality-Patient-Safety-and-Access-Information\/See-How-Were-Doing\/Army\/AMC-BAMC-FSH\">Brooke Army Medical Center<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bamc.health.mil\/saushec\/\">San Antonio Uniformed Services Health Education Consortium (SAUSHC)<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/usaisr.amedd.army.mil\/\">US Army Institute of Surgical Research<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Clinical rotations include EM physician residents, EM physician assistant residents and EMS fellowship training.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/3&#8243;][vc_single_image image=&#8221;2595&#8243; img_size=&#8221;medium&#8221;][\/vc_column][vc_column][vc_separator][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/4&#8243;][vc_single_image image=&#8221;2713&#8243;][\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;3\/4&#8243;][vc_column_text]In addition, the Military Medicine department partners with other major San Antonio medical organizations such as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences San Antonio clinical campus<\/li>\n<li>US Air Force 59<sup>th<\/sup> MDW health services research activity<\/li>\n<li>Naval Medical Research Unit<\/li>\n<li>Army Medical Department Center and School<\/li>\n<li>Medical Education and Training Center<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_separator][vc_column_text]Our faculty have several active research projects with the Department of Defense that have military-specific applications including but not limited to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Advanced Suction (combat medics)<\/li>\n<li>Brain scope device to screen for mild TBI<\/li>\n<li>POWDER clinical trial of vancomycin in open fractures<\/li>\n<li>JAARS dislocation reduction simulator<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221;]Internally, several UT San Antonio Emergency Medicine faculty are retired military and lend their unique experiences and training during the course of our resident and fellow didactics and clinical work.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row]<\/p>\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>[vc_row][vc_column width=&#8221;2\/3&#8243;][vc_column_text]The Military Medicine section collaborates with the Department of Defense primarily through research and education partnerships.
