Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism Fellowship<\/a><\/h2>\n

At the University of Texas at San Antonio, UT San Antonio, we support a two-year ACGME-accredited fellowship program that is designed to provide fellows with a broad-based exposure to endocrine cases with the goal of developing outstanding clinicians and educators.  We recruit two fellows annually.<\/p>\n

The Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism and the Division of Diabetes combine to provide the broad clinical exposure required to fulfill the requirements for subspecialty certification.  For physicians interested in careers in clinical endocrinology, the two-year program consists of inpatient rotations and outpatient preceptorships in all fields of adult endocrinology. Training occurs at the University Health System (UHS) and the Audie L Murphy Veteran\u2019s Administration Hospital (VA).  Outpatient preceptorships in pediatric endocrinology and reproductive endocrinology are also provided.<\/p>\n

Obesity, Metabolism, and Nutrition Fellowship<\/a><\/h2>\n

At the University of Texas at San Antonio, UT San Antonio, we support a one-year non-ACGME accredited fellowship program that is designed to provide fellows with a broad-based exposure to obesity medicine with the goal of developing outstanding clinicians and educators.  We recruit one fellow annually.<\/p>\n

The Obesity, Metabolism, and Nutrition Fellowship at the University of Texas at San Antonio UT San Antonio is housed within the Department of Medicine, Division of Endocrinology, and is a multidisciplinary collaboration with multiple departments, divisions, and clinics in our institution.<\/p>\n

People living with obesity face substantial bias and stigma, which contributes to increased morbidity and mortality, and they should have access to evidence-based interventions, but currently, there is a lack of formal training for physicians in obesity medicine. Our purpose with this program is to increase training opportunities for physicians with a special interest in the population to help provide effective obesity care to our patients.<\/p>\n

Geriatric Endocrinology Fellowship<\/a><\/h2>\n

The University of Texas at San Antonio, UT San Antonio Division of Geriatrics, Gerontology, and Palliative Medicine, in partnership with the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism, collaborates in the training of the Endocrinology Track in their Geriatric Medicine Fellowship.<\/p>\n

Endocrine disorders like diabetes, thyroid disease, and osteoporosis are more prevalent in older adults than any other age group.  As the population ages, Endocrinologists and Geriatricians alike will need to become more familiar with the intricacies of working with this growing group who frequently present atypically, with increased complications, and with multi-morbidity complicating treatment.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][vc_column width=”1\/3″] \n \n <\/i><\/span><\/span>
