Overview:

The “Recovery Support Peer Specialist” is a growing specialty in the substance use recovery sector. Though data demonstrates its usefulness in trauma, mental health and behavioral health spaces, very few programs focus on youth-specific use. Rise Recovery is a social service provider that has been employing this community-based method of care for minors for over 45 years. This presentation will explore youth recovery peer work and its potential to add value in engaging minor-aged clients engaging in early substance use.

Objectives:

  1.  Identify how substance abuse impacts adolescents.
  2.  Describe the Y.E.S. Program and how it's used to intervene with students who are already substances.
  3.  Discover how to engage a peer model to empower youth in recovery.
