Location

Video Conference

Event Details:

Overview:

Trauma exposure is common among primary care patients.  If such trauma is reported, Psychological First Aid should be administered and the patient should be frequently monitored for signs of Acute Stress Disorder (ASD).  If such warning signs are observed within the first month after trauma exposure, the patient should receive brief psychotherapy to forestall possible Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).  If PTSD does develop, all patients need trauma-focused psychotherapy.  SSRIs and NSRIs can reduce PTSD symptomatology and symptom-focused pharmacotherapy is possible.  However, benzodiazepines should be avoided after trauma, and in patients with either ASD or PTSD.

Objectives:

To be able to:
1.  Recognize And Diagnosis Trauma-Related Disorders
2.  Treat Trauma-Related Disorders Using Psychotherapeutic And Pharmacological Approaches
3.  Monitor Treatment Response And Complication Risk
