Overview:

According to an article published by the American Academy of Physicians (AAFP), up to 75% of primary care visits include mental or behavioral health components.  Integrated behavioral health has been shown to improve patient and physician experiences as well as improved health outcomes.  During this presentation, Maria Hernandez, MPA and JoAnna Garza, LCSW will review the Primary Care Behavioral Health Model implementation at UT Rio Grande Valley School of Medicine through workforce development efforts that include Family Medicine curriculum and training and graduate mental health trainees.

Objectives:

  1.  Define Primary Care and the PCBH Model
  2.  Outline the development of PCBH services at UTRGV
  3.  Summarize the expansion of PCBH related projects
  4.  Describe resident education and its relation to PCBH work at the UTRGV FM Residency program​
