This entails maximizing the use of available resources to integrate patient care throughout the academic and community system. Our residents are empowered to advocate for their patients and to make changes that create new knowledge and affect our healthcare system.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">We have a positive team based inpatient and outpatient work environment. The faculty, residents and ancillary staff share a common goal to improve our patients\u2019 lives through knowledge, research and compassion.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">We care deeply about our work and the South Texas community. We collaborate with those who do the same. We enter into the community to understand our underserved patients and their resources, and their choices. We use these experiences to demonstrate the effects of community change and to share knowledge that contributes to best-practice.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">We use Patient-Centered Medical Home principles to enhance the care of our underserved population, and to educate residents on the importance of integrated and multimodal care. We involve and mentor residents in successful quality improvement projects that are presented at regional, national and international conferences. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">We continue to promote a lifetime of learning through analyzing current evidence. We use the evidence for protocol driven care when appropriate.
