Green campus. It serves as the focal point for the education of the residents during their training, and it is the venue for their continuity practice. Unlike many programs, first year residents have 2-4 half day sessions in the FHC per week. This allows them to begin to build their continuity practice and to immediately become key members of the medical practice.<\/p>\n<h2>Hospitals<\/h2>\n<p>The Family Health Center is central, but hospitals also serve as important training sites for our residents. University Hospital is the main hospital for our residency. It is a 716 bed university teaching hospital, the major referral center for South Texas. University Hospital is the primary training site for many specialties in association with the UT Health San Antonio. Our Geriatric Inpatient rotation is done at the Christus Santa Rosa hospital.<\/p>\n<h2>Sub-Acute Care and Skilled Nursing Facilities<\/h2>\n<p>Residents should develop skills in care of patients in sub-acute care and nursing home settings. Our residents, under the supervision of family medicine faculty, care for people in these settings &#8211; both in a block rotation and longitudinally through all three years of residency.<\/p>\n<h3>Other Facilities<\/h3>\n<p>As the New Model of Care evolves, new practice settings are increasingly important.
