Overview:<\/h3>\n

Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis for the Prevention of Human Immunodeficiency Virus is an underrecognized need in Primary Care.\u00a0 Clinicians who attend this presentation will be provided with the necessary tools and knowledge to successfully provide HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) for eligible patients in their outpatient clinic. Emily Kirkpatrick, PharmD, BCIDP, AAHIVP will discuss the current landscape of HIV infections in the United States, an overview of the FDA-approved medications for PrEP, and a review of the literature supporting use of PrEP for HIV prevention. Participants will discuss how to conduct initial and follow up PrEP visits in the outpatient setting.<\/p>\n

Objectives:<\/h3>\n

1. Describe the epidemiology of newly diagnosed HIV infections in the United States.
\n2. Recall the names, doses, and adverse effects of the antiretroviral FDA-approved for PrEP.
\n3. Identify high-risk patients who are eligible to receive PrEP.
\n4. Outline a plan for initiating PrEP in eligible patients and the continued monitoring of patients thereafter.<\/p>\n
