Maria Cantu-Cooper, MD

Dr. Maria Angelica Cantu-Cooper completed residency in Internal Medicine with a concentration in primary care, followed by fellowships in Geriatrics and Hospice and Palliative Medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York City, NY.  She is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Texas Health San Antonio and the Inpatient Geriatrics Medical Director at the University Hospital. Her clinical focus is on inpatient and outpatient geriatric consultation for older adults admitted with traumatic injury. She is the University Health System Geriatrics Site Director for the UTHSA Geriatrics fellowship and the clinical course director for the Physician Assistant students rotating in geriatrics and palliative care. She has academic interests in transitions of care, management of geriatric syndromes, and integration of geriatrics and palliative medicine. She additionally is interested in medical education and serves as a mentor for medical students and fellows pursing scholarly projects in geriatrics.
