Teams admit patients based on a \u201cdrip\u201d system, with one team member staying to perform late afternoon admissions each day. Attendings rotate to assist with staffing patients admitted in the late afternoon. We have developed an inter-professional, patient-partnered model of care that includes multidisciplinary bedside rounding for two of our housestaff teams. <\/span><\/p>\n<h4>Hospitalist Procedure Service<\/h4>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/lsom.uthscsa.edu\/hospital-medicine\/education\/faculty-development\/hospital-medicine-procedure-service\/\">Hospitalist Procedure Service<\/a> is a consult service run by a dedicated group of hospitalists whose mission is to provide patients with maximal comfort and safety during their procedure, and to provide medical teams around the hospital with rapid diagnostic and therapeutic interventions. Patient comfort and safety, along with resident education are the hallmarks of the service.\u00a0 Service is provided to specialty and sub-specialty teams throughout the hospital.<\/p>\n<p>Our faculty is dedicated to safety and comfort, and to providing education and training both locally and nationally, with faculty participating in trainings at SHM and ACP annually.<\/p>\n<h4>Medicine Consult Service<\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Staffed by an attending physician and two third-year residents, this service provides consultative care for medical issues that arise for patients on other services. Peri-operative medicine is a significant component of the service provided, and throughout each block, we review a curriculum consisting mainly of primary articles.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4>Hospitalist Service<\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We provide direct patient care on these teams, staffed by a physician.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4>Medicine Transplant Service<\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We have two hospitalists covering at a time, working alongside transplant physicians who specialize in the care of liver, kidney, and lung transplant patients. \u00a0Each physician has an assigned transplant nurse navigator who will assist with workflow to ensure smooth execution of daily tasks.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4>Triage\/Cross-Cover Service<\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Physicians rotate to assist with carrying the admissions pager or cross-cover pager in shifts. Duties involve the triage of calls from the Emergency Department and clinics to assign patients to teams for admission, consultation in the Emergency Department to assist with alternative disposition, and after-hours admissions and cross cover.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4>Collaborative Care Initiative<\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At University Hospital and University of Texas at San Antonio, we have embedded two inter-professional collaborative practice teams. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To learn more about collaborative care, please visit the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.universityhealth.com\/\">University Health<\/a>\u00a0site.<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>UT Multispecialty and Research Hospital<\/h2>\n<p>Our dedicated team of hospitalists and Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) provide 24\/7 inpatient services to patients of UT Health&#8217;s brand new, state-of-the-art research hospital. Murphy Veterans&#8217; Affairs Hospital<\/h2>\n<h4>Internal Medicine Inpatient Services<\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The VA section provides 24\/7 clinical service to support inpatient care at Audie L. Murphy Veterans&#8217; Affairs Hospital (ALMVAH), which is the acute inpatient facility in the South Texas Veterans Health Care System. The VA Section operates teaching inpatient service, the faculty inpatient service, the medicine consultation service, and triage services.
