Infectious Diseases Fellowship<\/h1>\n

At UT Health San Antonio we support a two-year ACGME accredited fellowship program, recruiting 3 fellows annually, that is designed to provide fellows with a broad-based exposure to infectious diseases with the goal of developing outstanding clinicians and educators.<\/p>\n

South Texas is home to a vibrant community and plays host to a wide array of infectious disease training opportunities from endemic fungal diseases, mycobacterial infections including tuberculosis, nocardia, murine typhus, infections in the immunocompromised hosts and in persons living with HIV.<\/p>\n

We boast of a robust curriculum with a strong focus on didactics and collaborative teaching sessions. Fellows and faculty participate in weekly case management conferences that consist of interactive case presentations with faculty, focusing on differential diagnosis and treatment. Other weekly education sessions include Journal Club, M&M, Research, Board Review, Faculty and Fellow development, HIV core series, ID didactics and on-site plate rounds in the microbiology lab. Faculty present core curriculum lectures weekly during ID Grand Rounds. Topics include: HIV series, Infectious Diseases core series, Antimicrobial Therapies and Resistance, Microbiology, Travel and Tropical Medicine, Quality Improvement\/Quality Assessment, Hospital Infection Control and Epidemiology, other ID topics including Sexually Transmitted Diseases. These topics are continuously revised to include current and evolving trends. Our fellowship also hosts an off-site monthly city-wide Infectious Diseases Conference (Bug Club) which is a collaborative meeting of ID physicians from all over the city to network and form relationships in a meeting setting.<\/p>\n
