{"id":51,"date":"2015-06-23T11:13:48","date_gmt":"2015-06-23T11:13:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/uoce.chimpgroup.com\/?page_id=51"},"modified":"2026-06-23T11:00:53","modified_gmt":"2026-06-23T16:00:53","slug":"microbiology-immunology-molecular-genetics","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/lsom.uthscsa.edu\/mimg\/","title":{"rendered":"Home"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wpb-content-wrapper\" id=\"wpb-content-root\"><p>[vc_row el_class=&#8221;far&#8221;][vc_column width=&#8221;2\/3&#8243;][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Department of Microbiology, Immunology &amp; Molecular Genetics (MIMG) is the hub for research and education in Immunology and Microbiology at the University of Texas at San Antonio, UT San Antonio, fostering a dynamic environment for scientific discovery and training.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Our mission is to advance knowledge in microbiology and immunology, microbial pathogenesis, host-pathogen interactions, tumor immunology, and autoimmunity, with the ultimate goal of developing novel therapeutics.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Committed to training the next generation of biomedical scientists, MIMG offers a range of educational and research opportunities, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/lsom.uthscsa.edu\/mimg\/programs\/undergraduate\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Undergraduate Research Program<\/strong><\/span><\/a> that engages high school and undergraduate students through programs such as the <a href=\"https:\/\/voelckeracademy.uthscsa.edu\/students\/\">Voelcker Biomedical Research Academy<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/sturop.uthscsa.edu\/\">South Texas Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program<\/a>, as well as its own MIMG Program.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">A <a href=\"https:\/\/uthscsa.edu\/biomedical-sciences\/programs\/immunology-infection-ms\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Master of Science Program in Immunology &amp; Infection<\/strong><\/span><\/a>.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">A <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>PhD Program<\/strong><\/span> through the Molecular Immunology &amp; Microbiology Discipline of the <a href=\"https:\/\/uthscsa.edu\/biomedical-sciences\/programs\/integrated\">Integrated Biomedical Science Program (IBMS)<\/a> and the NIH-supported <a href=\"https:\/\/uthscsa.edu\/biomedical-sciences\/programs\/md-phd\">South Texas Medical Scientist Training Program (STX-MSTP)<\/a> within the <a href=\"https:\/\/uthscsa.edu\/biomedical-sciences\/programs\/integrated\">Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences (GSBS)<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Professional Education<\/strong>, providing teaching microbiology, immunology, and infectious diseases to medical, dental and other health science students.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Postdoctoral fellows play a vital role in our research mission.
