\nSan Antonio \u2018at the heart\u2019 of burgeoning kidney disease crisis<\/strong><\/h2>\n

David Rodriguez was 36 when he was diagnosed with end-stage kidney failure related to high blood pressure. Two months later, his father learned that his kidneys were also failing.<\/p>\n
After two years on dialysis, Rodriguez was fortunate to receive a kidney transplant from a live donor through a paired exchange in 2011, when the wait time for a kidney from a deceased donor was years. His father wasn\u2019t so lucky. A month after Rodriguez\u2019s transplant, his father died at 60.<\/p>\n
\u201cEverything I do is in his memory,\u201d said Rodriguez, now 47, who left his legal assistant job for a new career as a patient relationship specialist at\u00a0University Transplant Center.<\/p>\n
