This fellowship is designed to cultivate the next generation of neuropsychologists through a comprehensive program that integrates supervised clinical training, interdisciplinary education, active research participation, community outreach, and preparation for board certification.

Fellows will acquire in-depth expertise in the evaluation, diagnosis, and management of a wide array of neurological disorders, including dementia, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, and movement disorders. The program is structured to equip fellows for successful careers in academia, clinical practice, and hospital settings, while fostering a strong commitment to both research and community service. Trainees will be exposed to diverse patient populations, including Latinx, Spanish-speaking, and underserved communities, with opportunities to conduct bilingual evaluations and collaborate with interpreters.

The fellowship is embedded within UTHSA’s Department of Neurology and the Biggs Institute, offering fellows extensive exposure to both clinical and research opportunities. Fellows will work alongside neurologists in outpatient settings, conducting neuropsychological assessments, interpreting test results, and engaging in multidisciplinary case discussions. Specialized training experiences include pre- and post-operative evaluations for epilepsy and movement disorders, neuropsychological assessments for ALS patients, and participation in the Management in Neurodegenerative Disease (MIND) Clinic, which focuses on early diagnosis and treatment of dementia. Additional clinical training opportunities include participation in the ALS Clinic, South Texas Comprehensive Epilepsy Center, and Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) Clinic, where fellows contribute to treatment planning in collaboration with interdisciplinary teams.

In addition to clinical training, fellows will engage in scholarly research, dedicating approximately 20% of their time to research activities. Fellows are encouraged to collaborate with core faculty on ongoing research projects or develop their independent research initiatives. By the end of the second year, fellows are expected to have delivered two first-author accepted presentations and submitted a manuscript for peer-reviewed publication. Research opportunities encompass access to a robust archival database of clinical evaluations, participation in large-scale population studies conducted by the Biggs Institute, and involvement in industry-sponsored and investigator-initiated clinical trials focused on neurodegenerative disorders. Fellows will also have the chance to collaborate with faculty from both the Department of Neurology and the Biggs Institute, which fosters an environment conducive to innovative research and the advancement of neuropsychological science.

This fellowship program prepares future leaders in neuropsychology through its commitment to excellence in clinical care, research, and community service, while providing unparalleled opportunities for professional growth and development.

Application Process
Completed applications include:

Cover letter expressing interest and fit with our program

CV

3 Letters of recommendation

2 De-identified work samples

Doctoral transcript; if degree has not yet been conferred, the APPCN verification form is also required.

Submission: Application materials should be submitted via e-mail to Monica Perryman neuropostdoc@uthscsa.edu.

Feel feel to reach out to program co-directors, Jeremy Davis, Psy.D., ABPP (davis20@uthscsa.edu) or A.
