Vaibhav Patel, M.D.
In 2007, Vaibhav Patel graduated summa cum laude from Virginia Commonwealth University with a Bachelor of Science in biomedical engineering and biochemistry. In 2012, he obtained his M.D. from Virginia Commonwealth University/Medical College of Virginia and gained admission into the UTHSCSA Department of Neurosurgery’s residency program.
Dr. Patel’s research interests involve benign and malignant tumors of the central nervous system with an emphasis on those affecting the brain. He is currently working on two projects: 1) a wafer-based drug delivery system designed to treat glioblastoma multiforme and 2) the use of novel chemotherapeutics to effectively treat malignant meningioma. Dr. Patel conducted presentations on these topics at the 2016 European Association of Neurological Surgeons Meeting and the 2016 Congress of Neurological Surgery Meeting. His research goals are to learn basic laboratory techniques necessary for any scientific researcher, advance his projects to the next level (laboratory testing/animal studies), and ultimately publish his findings.
