Education<\/h2>\n

The Department provides instruction to medical students during their second, third and fourth years of training. The second and third year courses are designed to introduce the student to basic physiology and pathophysiology of the female reproductive tract and to provide supervised experiences on the obstetrical ward, labor and delivery suite and the emergency room. The fourth year curriculum consists of electives in advanced techniques in women’s health care.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Department provides a Sex Education Program throughout Bexar County and surrounding areas to include 12 school districts, as well as 13 private schools. University of Texas at San Antonio, UT San Antonio\u2019s Sex Education Program has reached over 20,000 students since its inception. In addition to reaching the students, the program partners with parents, community organizations, and faith leaders to increase public awareness of the ramifications of teen sexual activity.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Department supports a fully accredited four-year residency program<\/a> consisting of 24 positions (six each year). The Department also offers fellowship training in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, Maternal-Fetal Medicine and Gynecologic Oncology. These fellowship programs <\/a>are approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).<\/span><\/p>\n

Research<\/h2>\n

Members of the department are active in a wide range of basic and clinical research efforts. Extramural funding supports research efforts in sexually transmitted diseases, maternal-fetal medicine, fetal programming, endometriosis, contraception, menopausal health, and gynecologic malignancies. The department is a minority clinical center for the Women’s Health Initiative.<\/span><\/p>\n

Patient Care<\/h2>\n

The UT Physicians Women\u2019s Health Center<\/span><\/a>,<\/span> located at the Medical Arts and Research Center (MARC) adjacent to the campus of UT San Antonio Health Science Center, comprises the patient care facilities for the faculty physicians of the department. The Women’s Health Center <\/span>provides comprehensive health care for pregnant and non-pregnant women of all ages.<\/span><\/p>\n

The UT Physicians Fertility Center,<\/a> located in the MARC, is the principal clinical site for the Division of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility. The Center provides state-of-the-art services, including in vitro<\/em> fertilization-embryo transfer, intracytoplasmic sperm injection, donor gametes, and semen and embryo cryopreservation, and is an active member of the Society for Assisted Reproductive Technology.<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][vc_column width=”1\/3″] \n \n <\/i><\/span><\/span>
