On behalf of the faculty and residents, I\u00a0would like to welcome you to the Obstetrics and Gynecology residency program at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio – Joe and Teresa Lozano Long School of Medicine. Thank you for your interest in our residency program.<\/p>\n

Our primary goal is to educate, develop and nurture outstanding obstetrician\/gynecologists who are ready for independent practice or progression to additional fellowship training. We are committed to fostering a supportive and inclusive environment for all members of the clinical team. We strive to create an environment that actively supports and empowers every individual, ensuring that all voices are heard, respected and valued.<\/p>\n

Our residents receive outstanding clinical training that covers the depth and breadth of obstetrics and gynecology. Our primary teaching site is at the Women\u2019s and Children\u2019s Hospital, a state-of-the-art dedicated women\u2019s and children\u2019s hospital that is part of University Health. It is the primary safety net hospital for the city of San Antonio. Our other teaching sites include the Veteran\u2019s Affairs (VA) hospital and the University of Texas Health, where our residents have the opportunity to rotate amongst each of the subspecialities in the field of Ob\/Gyn, and care for the diverse patient population of the women of San Antonio, including the most underserved.<\/p>\n

Our residents receive quality training in managing high-risk pregnancies, operative obstetrics including forceps and vacuum, cesarean hysterectomies, and the management of obstetric emergencies and obstetric critical care. Additionally, our residents receive a robust gynecologic experience with focuses on our women\u2019s gynecologic emergency center, transvaginal ultrasound experience, office procedures clinic, and family planning clinic provide a phenomenal ambulatory gynecology experience. Additionally, residents gain ample surgical education and experience in laparoscopic, hysteroscopic, robotic, vaginal, and open surgical approaches. All residents obtain certification in Essentials in Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery (EMIGS) and are able to obtain robotic surgery certification.<\/p>\n

Our residents emerge from our program with a robust skill set, a deep understanding of the field and the adaptability to thrive in various professional environments, making them standout candidates in any career trajectory they pursue. Graduates from our OBGYN residency program are exceptionally well-prepared for any career path they choose whether it be fellowship, academic generalist roles, or private practice.
\nWe are immensely proud of our residents for their tireless work, compassionate care, unwavering dedication, and genuine enthusiasm for the field. They are an exceptional group of physicians, and it is a privilege to work alongside them and our outstanding faculty. As you explore our residency program, I hope you will experience the strong sense of culture, support, and camaraderie that makes San Antonio such an incredible place to train.<\/p>\n
