SAN ANTONIO – Texas makes the top ten lists in many things, including teen births. The Lone Star State ranks 9th in the nation. But thanks to a $10 million federal grant, efforts are ramping up to tackle teen pregnancy.<\/p>\n

UT Teen Health\u00a0was awarded the funding to carry out educational and clinical projects designed to prevent teen pregnancy in San Antonio and across South Texas.<\/p>\n

Dr. Rochelle David, Associate Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at UT Health San Antonio, says \u201cWe want them to be able to have safe spaces to ask the questions they want to ask so they understand how their body works, they understand the impact of decisions, they understand how to make the best decisions for themselves.”<\/p>\n

The grant was awarded last year and will run for the next five years.<\/p>\n

Below, Dr. Rochelle David, who has been part of the institution\u2019s adolescent health and wellness program UT Teen Health for three years, tells WOAI TV (News 4) and KABB TV (Fox 29) in San Antonio about the initiative\u2019s efforts to stem teen pregnancies in Texas, and with the help of a $10 million federal grant.<\/p>\n
