{"id":336,"date":"2018-11-19T22:44:00","date_gmt":"2018-11-19T22:44:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wp.uthscsa.edu\/ophthalmology\/?page_id=336"},"modified":"2022-11-04T14:40:49","modified_gmt":"2022-11-04T19:40:49","slug":"residency-rotations","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/lsom.uthscsa.edu\/ophthalmology\/education\/residency\/residency-rotations\/","title":{"rendered":"Residency Rotations"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wpb-content-wrapper\"><p>[vc_row][vc_column width=&#8221;2\/3&#8243;][vc_column_text]<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">As of July 2022, the rotations are as follows: <\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>First Year (PGY 2):<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Veterans Affairs:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Residents work in the general, retina, glaucoma, ER follow-up, and procedure clinics along with staff.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Residents perform laser procedures and intravitreal injections during procedure clinic.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Resident Clinic:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Residents spend time at the University Center for Community Health (UCCH) in the resident clinic.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">One half-day-a-week the resident is in the OR assisting with surgery and becoming familiar with perioperative tasks for eye surgery including ophthalmic blocks.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Plastics\/Cornea: The block consists of six weeks of plastics rotation and six weeks of cornea rotation.<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Plastic rotation:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Residents work closely with core faculty, associated faculty in private practice, and ASOPRS fellow.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Residents spend time in clinic with core faculty and also spend time in private clinic.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Residents spend one-and-a half-days in surgery every week.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Cornea rotation:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Residents spend time in attending clinics and spend one day a week in surgery.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\">Consults:\n<ul>\n<li>Residents have AM clinic within University Hospital and see consults from ER, trauma, and inpatient services during the daytime.<br \/>\nResidents will be in the OR for emergency and trauma cases with staff as needed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]<b>Second Year (PGY 3):<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Veterans Affairs:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Residents spend one day a week in the OR performing cataract surgery as the primary surgeon with staff.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Residents also spend another day in the OR with retina staff.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Clinic consists of retina clinic, resident\u2019s clinic for cataract preop\/postop, and laser clinic.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Pedi Neuro:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Residents work with core faculty and associated faculty in private practice.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Residents spend one-and-a-half day a week in the OR.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Residents spend one-half day a week in ROP rounds.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Retina\/Glaucoma:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The block consists of six weeks of retina rotation and six weeks of glaucoma rotation.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">During retina rotation, residents work with core faculty, with community faculty in private practice and with AUPO fellows.\u00a0 Residents spend one-and-a-half days a week in the OR.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">During glaucoma rotation, residents work with core faculty, and with VA faculty. Residents spend one-and-a-half days a week in the OR.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">During glaucoma rotation, residents work with core faculty and faculty from the VA.
