Chief Resident Presents at Heartland Foot & Ankle Conference

Rachel Isma, DPM, PGY-3 and chief resident of the Podiatric Medicine and Surgery Residency program at UT Health San Antonio spoke at the Heartland Foot and Ankle Conference on October 13, 2022.

Dr. Isma’s topic was “Lessons in Limb Salvage from UT Health San Antonio.” She presented the algorithm used by the UT Health San Antonio program to manage those at risk for limb loss. The approach consists of infection management, improvement in perfusion, reconstruction of deformities, covering deep structures, and closing the wound.

Dr. Isma is a graduate of Barry University School of Podiatric Medicine and completes her residency in July of 2023. Her interests include the management of the diabetic foot and she has the goal to create a network of limb salvage/diabetic foot care in the Caribbean Islands.
