Podiatry Faculty and Fellow Discuss Externship and Residency Preparedness

Dr. Collin Pehde and Dr. Stephanie Campbell

October 18, 2022

Dr. Collin Pehde, Director of the Amputation Prevention and Research Fellowship at UT Health San Antonio in partnership with University Health, and current fellow Dr. Stephanie Campbell authored a blog in Podiatry Today on how to select an externship and be prepared for residency interviews. Podiatry Today is the profession’s most widely read magazine.

The doctors provide many pearls including:

“You are most likely to match to a residency program with which you have extended due to the one-month exposure you have had at the institution. An externship is essentially a month-long interview, so every moment counts. The interviewer will assess what you say, what you do, how you act, and your attitude. Showing up early and staying late will always go a long way.”

UT Health San Antonio podiatry residency program is one of the oldest in the United States and has been in existence for 50 years. More than 230 residents have completed the program and half of them practice in Texas.
