Our Mission Statement<\/h2>\n

The mission of the orthopedic surgery residency program is to provide a solid foundation for a lifetime of learning and practicing orthopedic surgery. Our goal is to produce graduates who exemplify the highest ideals of our profession. We strive for excellence in clinical service, education, and research while upholding the highest ethical standards. We are committed to providing compassionate healthcare services and ensuring responsible stewardship of available resources.[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=””]<\/p>\n

Program Overview<\/h2>\n

Established by Dr. Charles Rockwood in 1966, the UT Health San Antonio Orthopaedic Surgery Residency has produced exceptional surgeons and leaders in the field. Located in a major medical hub for South Texas and the Rio Grande Valley, we serve a diverse patient population, which supports our mission to improve lives and advance orthopaedics.<\/p>\n

Our five-year categorical program accepts seven residents annually, covering all orthopaedic subspecialties for a comprehensive training experience. Residents will work across various medical care models, including academic hospitals, county facilities, veterans affairs, and private practice. We offer high clinical volume, early operative experience, weekly faculty-led didactics, and research opportunities.<\/p>\n

Residents also attend courses nationwide and can participate in international travel and medical outreach missions.<\/p>\n
