\"\"Podiatric Medicine and Surgery Residency (PMSR) Program<\/h2>\n

The Podiatric Medicine and Surgery Residency (PMSR) training program at the University of Texas at San Antonio, UT San Antonio, is one of the oldest programs in the United States and was the first podiatry program to be fully integrated within a state-funded academic health science center (1972). Alumni<\/a> of the program have become notable leaders in clinical care and academics around the United States.<\/p>\n

Podiatric Medicine & Surgery is a Division in the Department of Orthopedics. The primary locations for training are the University Hospital<\/a>, South Texas Veterans Health Care System<\/a>, Texas Diabetes Institute<\/a>, Methodist Texsan Hospital<\/a>, and other private hospitals and surgery centers where members of our adjunct clinical faculty practice.<\/p>\n

The training involves an extensive combination of inpatient and outpatient services with excellent surgical training in limb salvage, plastic surgery, trauma, podopediatrics, and reconstructive forefoot, rearfoot and ankle surgery. For those interested, there is an opportunity to complete a Master’s in Clinical Investigation (MSCI) and interact with worldwide experts in basic science and medicine.<\/p>\n

Our focus is to train podiatric medical physicians and surgeons, keeping in mind the mission of an academic health center, which is teaching, research, and service. Individual assessment of residents\u2019 performance is based on six core competencies: interpersonal skills, professionalism, patient care, knowledge, system-based practice, and practice-based learning and improvement.[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n
