Welcome to the Division of Pediatric Hematology-Oncology at UT Health San Antonio.  Our group is devoted to providing care to children, adolescents, and young adults with cancer and blood diseases. Our philosophy is not only to alleviate disease, but to promote quality of life, psychosocial support, and to provide life-long care for our patients.

Because burning questions for every family with a child or teenager with cancer are why disease occurs and how do we best approach treatment, we search for many answers through research.   Our research portfolio includes studies pertaining to the genetic and biologic causes of cancers, discovering new therapies for cancer, improving management of treatment side effects, and addressing long-term quality of life issues in cancer survivors.  Although only a small fraction of cancer in children are associated with a familial predisposition, we provide expert genetic evaluation and counseling to patients and families in which a genetic etiology is suspected.

We are home to the NCI Community Oncology Research Program which supports enrollments on clinical trials at multiple sites throughout Texas with a focus on eliminating health disparities in our underserved population.

Our Hemophilia Treatment Center provides comprehensive care for children with bleeding and blood clotting disorders including diagnosis, patient education, assistance with medications, psychosocial support, physical therapy, and genetic evaluation of families with inherited conditions.  Our hematology team also provides comprehensive care for children with sickle cell disease and other hemoglobin disorders.
