Dr. Steven Abrams is a Professor of Pediatrics at Dell Medical School at the University of Texas at Austin and Adjoint Professor at the University of Texas Health Sciences Center at San Antonio.  Dr. Abrams is a pediatrician and neonatologist with expertise in nutrition, specifically focused on the mineral requirements of children. He has also been active in public policy development related to nutritional requirements of children in the United States and around the world, serving as a member on several Institute of Medicine committees, including the Panel on Calcium and Related Nutrients in 1996-1997, the Subcommittee on Upper Safe Reference Levels of Nutrients in 1996-1997, the Panel on Use of Dietary Reference Intakes in Nutrition Labeling in 2002-2003, and the Panel on Calcium and Vitamin D in 2009-2010. In addition, he was a member of the 2015 Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee for the U.S. Dietary Guidelines. He has spent 10 years as a member and chair of the Committee on Nutrition of the American Academy of Pediatrics and is now co-editor of the nutrition handbook of the AAP.
