Izabela Tarasiewicz, M.D. F.R.C.S.(C), is the Medical Director of the Craniofacial Center at University Health System (UHS). Dr. Tarasiewicz obtained her medical degree from Université de Sherbrooke, Canada and completed her residency training in neurological surgery at Université Laval in Québec City, Canada. She went on to complete a postgraduate fellowship in pediatric neurological surgery at Northwestern University, (Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago). She is board-certified by both the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and the American Board of Pediatric Neurological Surgery. Dr. Tarasiewicz skill set focuses on the management of craniosynostosis and other congenital malformations of the central nervous system, such as spinal bifida/tethered cord and Chiari malformation. Her other areas of expertise are pediatric neuro-trauma, pediatric neuro-oncology, neuro-endoscopy, hydrocephalus, and spasticity. Dr. Tarasiewicz is currently working to develop the pediatric neurosurgery program in San Antonio and the South Texas region, build comprehensive, multidisciplinary clinics to treat tethered cord and spasticity, and establish a volunteer program to perform neurosurgical procedures for children in underprivileged regions of the world.
