Applications are only accepted through the <a href=\"https:\/\/students-residents.aamc.org\/applying-residencies-eras\/applying-residencies-eras-system\">Electronic Residency Application System (ERAS)<\/a>. Applications must be received by late September.<\/h4>\n<h4>The following items are required with the ERAS common application:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h4>A complete and official medical school transcript<\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h4>The Dean\u2019s letter (MSPE)<\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h4>3 letters of recommendation, at least one from a primary Pediatrics clinical exposure is required<\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h4>USMLE or COMPLEX transcript<\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h4>Personal statement<\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Interviews run from October through January and are issued on a rolling basis. We limit the number of applicants on any given day to assure you a more personal view of our training program. Application information is reviewed by our residency application committee (PD, APDs) and invitations are extended as early as possible via an online scheduling software, <a href=\"https:\/\/thalamusgme.com\">Thalamus<\/a>.<\/h4>\n<h4>Applications will not be accepted from individuals who are more than 2 years past medical school graduation unless the intervening time has been spent in an ACGME-accredited residency program, in military service with the United States Armed Forces, or in medical practice in the United States.<\/h4>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>What to Expect on Your Interview Day<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h4>Virtual Resident Social via Zoom the night before or the night of your interview<\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h4>Welcome and Program Overview from our Program Director, Dr. Dina Tom<\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h4>Welcome and Department Overview from our Chair, Dr. Steve Seidner<\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h4>Two (20-minute) structured interviews with faculty, chief, or recent graduate<\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h4>Two (20-minute) unstructured interviews with our Chair and Program Director<\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h4>Virtual Meet &amp; Greet with our amazing residents<\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h4>Farewell from Program Director<\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>International Graduates Policy for Pediatrics<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h4>UT Health San Antonio only sponsors J1 visas. In addition, all applicants must be eligible to work in the United States and participate in the National Residency Match Program.<\/h4>\n<h4>A clinical J-1 visa is required by our institution and must be sponsored by ECFMG, which mandates passing USMLE Steps 1 and 2. For more information, please visit the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ecfmg.org\">ECFMG website<\/a>.<\/h4>\n<h4>To ensure success in our program, we value clinical and cultural preparedness. Therefore, we require that applicants have prior clinical experience in the United States. Letters of recommendation from these experiences are also strongly recommended, as they will enhance an IMG applicant&#8217;s documentation of their readiness for residency training in the U.S.<\/h4>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Frequently Asked Questions<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h4><strong>Do you have score minimums?<\/strong><br \/>\nWe do not have an absolute cutoff, however we generally look for USMLE Step 1 scores &gt;210 and COMLEX scores &gt;500.<\/h4>\n<h4><strong>Do you have a medical school graduation year cutoff?<\/strong><br \/>\nApplicants who graduated more than 5 years ago are generally less likely to successfully match in our program.<\/h4>\n<h4><strong>What visas is your institution able to sponsor? <\/strong><br \/>\nA Clinical J-1 visa only.<\/h4>\n<h4><strong>Do you require ECFMG certification to apply? <\/strong><br \/>\nNo, you do not have to be ECFMG certified to apply, but you need to be certified by Match Day.<\/h4>\n<h4><strong>Do you participate in couples match? <\/strong><br \/>\nYes!<\/h4>\n<h4><strong>Do you offer observerships or externships to medical school graduates?<\/strong><br \/>\nNo, we do not offer observerships or externships if you have already graduated medical school. Those still in medical school can apply for a Sub-I or away rotation here at UT Health San Antonio through the <a href=\"https:\/\/students-residents.aamc.org\/visiting-student-learning-opportunities\/visiting-student-learning-opportunities-vslo\">Visiting Student Learning Opportunities (VSLO)<\/a>. International students must contact the Office of the Dean. Our residency program does not make arrangements for observerships or externships.
