Support and Wellness<\/strong><\/h2>\n

\nThe Pediatric Residency Program takes a fun, multi-layered approach to resident wellness! Each resident pairs up with a Faculty Advisor for 3-4 meetings a year, and everyone\u2014from Faculty Advisors to the Program Director & Chair\u2014keeps an open-door policy for sharing concerns. Most issues we address are personal, and we offer full psychological and psychiatric counseling as part of health benefits. We’ve also helped residents secure AAP financial scholarships to ease financial stress. Plus, our vibrant Resident Wellness Committee hosts regular events on stress reduction, work-life balance, healthy eating, mental health, diversity training, and more\u2014all aimed at building resilience and balance!<\/h4>\n

There are also institutional supports for the residents such as The House Staff Council whose mission is to improve patient care and graduate medical education by facilitating communication between the residents, the university, the hospitals, and our community. The council is made up of four officers and representatives from each department. Pediatric residents have served the past two years as officers on this council. The council interacts with the faculty through the Working Environment Subcommittee of the Graduate Medical Education Committee with many important issues being handled here including those involving on-call meals, call room and workspace requirements, and resident safety in and around our facilities.<\/h4>\n
