Overview:<\/strong>
\nImproving Care for Sickle Cell Disease through Health Policy<\/p>\n

Objectives:<\/strong>
\nTo increase awareness and education for pediatric providers<\/p>\n

Dr. Frei-Jones<\/strong> received her medical degree from UT Southwestern Medical School and completed a pediatric residency at Children\u2019s Medical Center in Dallas, TX. Her pediatric hematology oncology fellowship training was occurred at St. Louis Children\u2019s Hospital where she addi\udbc0\udd9fonally atained a Master\u2019s in Science of Clinical inves\udbc0\udd9fga\udbc0\udd9fon at Washington University in St. Louis. She has been on faculty at UTHealth Long School of Medicine in San Antonio, TX since 2008 and is currently a Professor of Pediatrics. She had been the Pediatric Hematology-Oncology Fellowship Program Director since 2012. Her primary clinical practice is classical hematology, specializing in red blood cell disorders and vascular anomalies. She serves as the Medical Director of the South Texas Sickle Cell and Thalassemia Program. For the past 6 years, she has supported sickle cell policy development through her role as the Vice Chair and now Chair of the Texas Department of State Health Services Newborn Screening Advisory Commitee and as a member of the Texas Sickle Cell Task Force, where she leads the surveillance subcommitee and is a member of the Mul\udbc0\udd9f-Disciplinary Team suppor\udbc0\udd9fng TDSHS in carrying-out the tasks of the recently awarded CDC Sickle Cell Data Collec\udbc0\udd9fon Grant. More importantly, she has had the opportunity to be one of the medical directors for Camp Cell-A-Bra\udbc0\udd9fon, a summer camp for children living with SCD, and Camp Next Level, a transi\udbc0\udd9fon prepara\udbc0\udd9fon camp for teens living with SCD in Texas.<\/p>\n
