Pediatric Hospital Medicine forms the foundation of collaborative, multi-disciplinary, team-based medical training and serves as a model for team-leadership and quality improvement. Many faculty in the UT San Antonio PHM program are Core Faculty for the Pediatric Residency Program<\/a>, and therefore understand the role of supervision, evaluation, and mentorship in training.<\/p>\n

Fellows are a highly valued addition to the inpatient interprofessional teams on wards. These teams are composed of medical students, pediatric and off-service residents, pharmacists, dietitians, teaching faculty, case management\/social work, and other ancillary services. Fellows will gain graduated autonomy in rounding and leading an inpatient team while supervising and teaching medical students, pediatric residents, and off-service rotating residents. A supervising PHM faculty member will always be on service with a fellow to provide varying levels of supervision, coaching, and modeling.<\/p>\n

On inpatient wards rotations, fellows will lead the medical team with supervision by faculty to help guide evidence-based care with safety and efficacy in mind. Fellows will be encouraged to engage in patient safety and quality improvement projects with hospital staff, faculty, and other trainees, and will participate in committee meetings including Event Reviews and Root Cause Analyses to discuss important patient safety issues.<\/p>\n

We look forward to welcoming PHM fellows and hope to foster an environment of learning and growth. The PHM fellowship will provide core experiences to build a strong foundation of knowledge, however will also give freedom and flexibility with multiple electives to develop an individualized curriculum based on each fellow’s interests. PHM faculty will continue to provide guidance and support for all trainees as they continue through fellowship.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][vc_column width=”1\/3″]
