Hilary M. Haftel, MD, MHPE, FAAP is Senior Vice President for Education at the American Academy of Pediarics, overseeing education across the continuum, from medical students through continuing medical education (CME), as well as CME accreditation and the AAP\u2019s electronic educational platforms.\u00a0 She is Professor Emerita of Pediatrics and Learning Health Sciences at the University of Michigan, where she spent her entire academic career prior to moving to the AAP in 2018. She served as Director of the Division of Pediatric Rheumatology and Associate Chair and Director of Education in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Michigan, as well as being the Program Director for the Categorical Residency program.<\/p>\n
Dr. Haftel received her medical degree from Albany Medical College, where she completed residency training in Combined Medicine-Pediatrics and a chief residency before coming to the University of Michigan for fellowship training in pediatric and adult rheumatology in 1991. Dr. Haftel received a Master’s of Health Professions Education degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago in 2004.<\/p>\n
Dr. Haftel is recognized nationally for her work in undergraduate, graduate medical education, and continuing professional development. Dr. Haftel was an inaugural Council Member of the Association for Pediatric Program Directors (APPD)’s Leadership in Educational Academic Development (LEAD) program. She has served as a member of the APPD Longitudinal Education Assessment Research Network (LEARN) Advisory Council.<\/p>\n
