Research in Dr. Richard Lu Lab aims to understand how distinct glial cell subtypes (oligodendrocytes, astrocytes and Schwann cells) in the mammalian nervous systems are generated, how they are regenerated after injury, and how dysregulation of these processes leads to neurological diseases and their malignant transformation. Dr. Lu lab has been studying the transcriptional, epigenetic and signaling mechanisms that govern glial development, myelination and brain tumor formation. In this presentation, Dr. Lu will discuss epigenetic regulation of glial plasticity, myelination and functional nerve regeneration after injury as well as a therapeutic potential of chromatin modifications for improving myelin repair.
