Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)

Do teachers say your child or teen is not focused or can’t complete things?  Do they do poorly on tests when they know the material? Do they fail to turn in their work and forget their homework?  Do you find yourself constantly on your child to behave and nothing seems to work? It might be ADHD. We can evaluate and treat it. See how our doctors evaluate and treat for ADHD.

Bipolar and Mood Disorders

Child and Adolescent At-risk Evaluation for Bipolar Disorders Program (CAARE-BD)

Dr. Donna Roybal leads the Child and Adolescent At-risk Evaluation for Bipolar Disorders Program (CAARE-BD). This is the only program of its kind in Texas dedicated to the evaluation, treatment, and research of children and adolescents at-risk for bipolar disorder. Our research uses multimodal neuroimaging methods and epigenetic models of risk. We also treat and study children and adolescents with bipolar disorder

We are currently recruiting for children and adolescents 8 and up who have a parent with severe mood swings or bipolar disorder. Interested families can email or call 210-450-8362.

Please visit our site at caarebd.com to learn more about our studies and our local and national group of collaborators and advisors. You can also sign up for our newsletter which will inform you about bipolar disorder and what it means to be at-risk. Download a free booklet on bipolar in children here.

Anxiety and Depression

If your child or teen is sad or irritable much of the time, this could be more than just the normal “blues.” Our clinicians employ a combined treatment package of medication and psychotherapy approaches tailored specifically to assist your child or teen and his/her family with managing emotions, thoughts and behaviors.

Autism and Asperger’s Disorder

We offer testing for Autism and Asperger’s Disorder and if your child has been diagnosed with Autism or Asperger’s Disorder, our psychiatrists are specialist in using medication to treat some of the more serious problems that some of children and adolescents with these disorders have, such as severe hyperactivity, self-injurious behavior, obsessive behavior or mood swings.  At this time, we do not offer Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy.
