BaileyChild and Adolescent Psychiatry Residency Program Director
Brigitte Bailey, M.D.
Welcome to the UT Health Science Center San Antonio Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Residency Program. Our mission is to provide an enriching and balanced education to each resident. We strive for excellence in knowledge, caring, and service to our patients, families, community, and to our field of medicine. Training is rigorous, but it is also a journey of discovery. Discovery of the world of children in all its many variables. And, discovery of one’s self.

“Intelligence plus character—that is the goal of true education.”
Martin Luther King, Jr.

We have dedicated and committed faculty who believe that the quality of the education program and its residents are the cornerstone of any great department. Our faculty work closely with residents in all our settings. The program’s ultimate goal is to provide excellent child and adolescent psychiatrists to children and families, whether it be in academia, clinical service, research, private practice, or other areas.

“Free the child’s potential, and you will transform him into the world.”
Maria Montessori, Italian physician and educator

Rene L. Olvera, M.D.
Our program provides a unique education and service experience to child psychiatry residents, general residents, and medical students in a variety of stimulating settings, which include inpatient, outpatient, emergency assessments, juvenile justice, and residential treatment settings. Well established educators and researchers, our faculty have interests ranging from ADHD, mood disorders, impulse control disorders, and aggression. We are fortunate to have access to cutting edge resources that allow us to explore psychiatric illness in children and adolescents with methods such as neuro-imaging, neuropsychological probes and genetics. We are proud to be an integral part of the University of Texas Health Science Center and mental health services to the children, adolescents, and families of central and south Texas.

As a practicing child and adolescent psychiatrist and former Chief of the Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, the educational, patient care, and research programs of the Division are a major point of pride for me. Thanks to the dedicated efforts of the new Division Chief, Rene Olvera, M.D., and the CAP Residency Program Director, Brigitte Bailey M,D., the Division continues to grow. CAP has moved to its beautiful new facility at Clarity Child Guidance Center, and our CAP residency provides state of the art education in all varieties of child mental health issues. We are committed to the mental health care of the children of San Antonio and South Texas. We have a presence in diverse health care settings as well as schools, residential, and juvenile justice facilities. Please take some time to learn about our exciting program.
