Service and Leadership\u00a0Opportunities<\/h1>\n

Our residency program offers an abundance of enriching volunteer opportunities designed to enhance your professional development and allow you to make a meaningful impact on the community. Among these, we proudly feature two recurring volunteer clinics: Refugee Clinic and Alpha Home.<\/p>\n

Refugee Clinic<\/h2>\n

Residents volunteer at our medical student-run Refugee Clinic to provide free, outpatient psychiatric care to a population of over 1,300 immigrant refugees living in the northwest region of San Antonio. Here, residents become proficient in interviewing patients using an interpreting service, navigating community-based resources, and understanding the impact of culture and life transitions in mental health.<\/p>\n

Alpha Home<\/h2>\n

At Alpha Home, residents provide compassionate psychiatric care to women battling substance use disorder who are living in a drug and alcohol rehab center. Here, we also get the opportunity to supervise and teach medical student volunteers about psychiatry, as they help provide free, personalized care and empower these women on their journey to recovery.[\/vc_column_text]
